Referendum voted down
Ellen Smith Elected to City Council

In voting down the bond referendum, Oak Ridge made clear its call for greater transparency and better practices in City decision-making. In doing so, Oak Ridge has taken an important first step in creating a better community and improved business environment - one that supports all comers with a fair and well thought-out process for development. Oak Ridge can and will do better with better policies to define and guide City involvement in the development process.

Citizens Oak Ridge wishes to thank all Oak Ridgers for their thoughtfulness and concern in looking closely at this important decision - a decision that has implications for who we are as a community and how we do business. All Oak Ridgers want the best for our great community. We look forward to working with the City to ensure a City decision process that is transparent, fair, and provides ample opportunity for input and examination by citizens and investors.

We look forward to working with others to encourage projects that make good economic sense for both investors and the community. Most Oak Ridgers, regardless of their position on the bond issue, want to help new and existing businesses thrive in our existing retail areas. There is a lot of work to be done to make this a reality. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and make good things happen for our community.

We look forward to working with all in our community toward a vibrant future for Oak Ridge.

Bill Schramm
President, Citizens Oak Ridge
